I have currently lived in St. Louis city for 2 years, but my hometown is Festus, Missouri (about 30 miles south of St. Louis). I chose the field of biology because I am interested in evolution, the interactions and relationships between animals and humans, animal behavior, and conservation biology. I have been interested in biology since the sixth grade, when I got a 2-day-old kitten without a mother. After that, I wanted to be a vet up until this year, when I started taking biology courses that slightly shifted my goals to what they are now. I really have no clue what I will do after I graduate. I will probably get my MS degree and most likely go on for a Ph.D. I would like to have my own research projects, much like the one I am working on now, focusing on the topics listed above. And eventually, I see myself teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level. I plan to learn a lot from this project. Already, after three days of work, I have learned more than I imagined I would. I have already learned many techniques like setting up PCR, electrophoresis, and how to extract and purify DNA. I am starting to fully understand each step, and will learn more throughout the summer. I am also learning basic lab and safety procedures that will be very helpful in the future. I have several hobbies. I play the piano, drums, and some guitar. I like to go camping and be outside as mush as possible. In my free time, if I am not doing one of these things, I like to hang out with my family or friends, or read an interesting book. I also like to run everyday if possible and am training to run a half marathon by the end of the summer. |
