VIBRATIONAL COMMUNICATION

Sound can travel through plant leaves and stems by means of tiny vibrations. We can hear these sounds using specialized sound capture and recoding equipment.

It is estimated that >90% of insects that produce sound actually use substrate-borne vibrations. That is a lot that we cannot hear with our ears!
