Courses:  Foundations of Immunobiology

Research Interests:
Infants are especially vulnerable to respiratory viral infections. This is due, in part, to an immature immune system & a failure to mount protective immune responses.  My laboratory uses a mouse model of viral respiratory infection to elucidate the cellular and molecular differences between the neonatal and adult immune response to viral infection.

Research opportunities:
I welcome graduate and undergraduate students interested in immunology. Students will learn basic laboratory skills including laboratory safety, how to keep a lab notebook, making solutions, pipetting, and sterile technique. There are opportunities to learn molecular biology and immunological techniques including viral propagation, cell culture, flow cytometry, immunohistochemical staining, ELISA, PCR, nucleic acid hybridization. Lab meetings are held to discuss data & future experiments, journal articles & lab management issues.
